AMAX to Showcase OCP Solution for OpenStack

AMAX announced today that it will be showcasing a complete Open Compute Project (OCP) solution for OpenStack at the 2014 Open Compute Summit in San Jose, CA, January 28-29. In addition, AMAX will release a data center reference design with IO Data Centers (IO), a global leader in smart data centers.

AMAX OCP Solution for OpenStack is a rack-level solution allowing clients to run various applications such as web, cache, data analytics and storage within the same rack. Its inherent streamlined design requires only simple changing of component-level configurations to repurpose servers as application needs change. All racks are shipped pre-loaded with OpenStack allowing applications to be easily added and ready to run within days. As IT needs evolve, servers are easily repurposed when application demands change, eliminating the need to buy specialized equipment for specific applications.

As a result of the solution's operational and performance efficiency combined with OpenStack's flexibility to take full advantage of virtualization and cloud-computing capabilities, AMAX's OCP Solution for OpenStack was chosen as the platform for IO's new offering, IO.Cloud.

IO.Cloud is thought by the company to be the first commercially available Enterprise Cloud solution that is built on a fully-converged, open reference architecture, comprised of Open Compute designed hardware and OpenStack Cloud software. To address the transparency and security concerns of the Enterprise, IO.Cloud is built upon IO's software-defined Intelligent Control data center platform, consisting of the IO.OS data center operating system and IO.Anywhere modular data center infrastructure.

"We see open architecture as the tipping point for Enterprise Cloud," said Troy Rutman, Director of Corporate Communications for IO. "AMAX brought the advanced engineering and expertise to architect a platform that works seamlessly with IO.Cloud. We needed a partner that really understood our DNA and our application requirements and AMAX delivered."

As a contribution to the Open Compute Project, AMAX and IO have published a reference architecture, Redefining the Data Center: How IO Used the Open Compute Platform to Create a Unique Cloud Solution, which will be available at AMAX booth A5 and IO booth A2 at OCP Summit.
