CSC and VMware to Deliver OpenStack Infrastructure-as-a-Service Platform

CSC and VMware, Inc. extended the companies' ongoing collaboration by announcing plans for a web scale OpenStack Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform built on VMware's software-defined data center solutions. CSC will combine its Agility Platform with VMware Integrated OpenStack and VMware's enterprise-class compute, networking and storage solutions to provide next-generation IaaS solutions. Through this collaboration, CSC will quickly and cost-effectively provide customers with open APIs to access CSC next-generation business infrastructures, while delivering improved automation, agility, security, and speed to market.

In building this platform based on a software-defined data center architecture and leveraging OpenStack with VMware technologies, CSC will meet the requirement of its enterprise customers who are looking for proven, highly-available infrastructures on which to develop and run application workloads. CSC selected VMware's enterprise-class infrastructure, including VMware vSphereVMware NSXVMware Virtual SAN and VMware vCenter Log Insight, as the underpinnings for CSC's OpenStack strategy. These solutions, when coupled with CSC's Agility Platform and VMware Integrated OpenStack, help reduce capital and operational expenses, and total cost of ownership for production-grade OpenStack deployments.

"CSC's Agility Platform is the perfect complement to VMware's software-defined data center portfolio, empowering customers to manage, monitor and govern their cloud environments with a faster, more secure and low risk IaaS solution," said Gary Budzinski, EVP and GM of Global Infrastructure Services, CSC. "CSC's OpenStack strategy, supported by our continued partnership with VMware, reinforces our next generation IaaS and cloud strategy. We are excited to partner with VMware to deliver an integrated and fully supported OpenStack software-defined data center solution."

CSC will be able to achieve demonstrable cost savings and faster time-to-value for customers deploying OpenStack by using VMware technologies to deliver its next-generation OpenStack IaaS platform. VMware Integrated OpenStack will enable CSC to roll out new policy compliant and automated IT infrastructures in a mere fraction of the time (days not weeks) required by using loosely coupled, disparate technologies. The VMware NSX network virtualization platform will help CSC meet the automated provisioning and self-service requirements of a true IaaS environment. This solution will enable each person accessing the infrastructure the ability to provision their own networks logically without touching the physical infrastructure, while meeting both their security and compliance requirements. In addition, VMware Virtual SAN has the ability to help CSC in reducing overall hardware costs while adding greater flexibility in the types of application workloads the IaaS platform can handle.

"VMware is teaming with CSC to enable customers around the globe to leverage the software-defined data center as a strategic asset to capture new market opportunities and improve business performance," said Raghu Raghuram, Executive Vice President, SDDC Division, VMware. "The innovation VMware delivers across compute, network, storage, and management provides unique and differentiated value for OpenStack environments to partners such as CSC and their customers. Together we are working with CSC to offer customers the fastest and most flexible paths to implement software-defined data center."
