Tom Tabor and TCI Honored with Trailblazer Award by the Asian Business Association

The Asian Business Association of San Diego (ABA), San Diego’s Premiere Asian Chamber of Commerce, honored Tom Tabor, CEO of Tabor Communications Inc. (TCI), with the Trailblazer Award at this year’s 24th Annual Asian Business Association Awards Gala, held earlier this month.

“The Trailblazer award is presented to an innovative business person who is of Asian or Pacific Islander decent or who has spearheaded a positive impact on the business environment of these communities,” said Wendy Urushima-Conn, CEO of the Asian Business Association (ABA), who presented Tom Tabor with the award at the annual Gala on October 15th. “We have followed Tom’s work not only as an internet publisher, but as a stalwart for both gender and ethnic diversity globally. We are very proud to honor Tom and the Tabor Communications organization, a Pacific Islander owned business, for being an early Internet publishing pioneer as the first paid subscription, paid advertising publisher on the Internet.”

Tabor’s organization, TCI, produces a portfolio of publications that cover the fastest computers in the world, their applications in science and industry, as well as the individuals and organizations who are using them to drive advancement in all corners of soiceity. Their flagship publication, HPCwire, was the first paid subscription, paid advertising publication on the internet dating back to the early 90s when the Internet was in its infancy.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Asian Business Association as a business Trailblazer. Organizations like the Asian Business Association play a vital role in building community and support for minority owned businesses,” said Tabor in receiving the Trailblazer award. “I’m humbled to be inducted as a part of the history of the ABA as it advocates for diversity and helps to open new channels of opportunity for future minority entrepreneurs. Cultural diversity transcends just our business environment, it enriches our lives.”

The awards were presented at the ABA’s 24th Awards Gala on October 15th, 2014 at the Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley, CA. San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer delivered his opening comments in front of a sold out crowd of more than 400 community and business leaders.
