Pertino for Docker Introduced 

Pertino today announced the Pertino for Docker network stack software that extends its SDN-powered Cloud Network Engine service to Docker containers. With Pertino for Docker, available on Docker Hub, DevOps and other teams can instantly build container-level Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) networks to securely connect Dockerized distributed apps across any number of private or public clouds, anywhere. Pertino has also joined the Docker Technology Partner program to further collaborate with Docker on networking.

Docker is an open platform for building, shipping, running and orchestrating distributed applications that frees the creation of applications from the constraints of infrastructure through containerization. Docker containers are modular application components that can be assembled and re-assembled into highly iterative distributed applications in minutes, which can then be shipped and run anywhere. The dynamic and portable nature of these Dockerized apps makes it difficult to network them using traditional VPN technology because their presence, host, IP addressing, DNS and security relationships can constantly change.

With the introduction of the Pertino for Docker network stack, Pertino delivers a proven cloud networking solution tailored to connecting containers anywhere and on any cloud. The Pertino Cloud Network Engine lets DevOps, development and other teams instantly build and manage cloud networks—private virtual networks that overlay the Internet using public cloud infrastructure as hubs. It combines Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and network virtualization to abstract away the constraints of underlying physical networks and provide an elastic and scalable VPC for Dockerized distributed apps. The SDN controller within the Cloud Network Engine platform automatically handles all host, IP addressing, DNS and security relationships while the distributed data plane functions as a virtual LAN switch in the cloud to seamlessly connect app containers on a secure virtual network.
