Intel Becomes Platinum Member of the OpenStack Foundation
The Board of Directors of the OpenStack Foundation elected Intel as the first new Platinum member since the formation of the Foundation in September 2012. The election was held during its meeting yesterday at the OpenStack Summit Paris, and their term will begin January 1, 2015.
Foundation Membership is limited to eight Platinum Members, each of which holds a Board seat. There is a high bar for members to demonstrate significant contribution to the community and a commitment to achieving the Foundation mission. Each Platinum Member's company strategy aligns with the OpenStack mission and is responsible for committing full-time resources toward the project.
"Intel is honored to be elected a Platinum member of the OpenStack Foundation and to have a seat on the Board,” said Imad Sousou, vice president and general manager of the Open Source Technology Center, Intel Corporation. OpenStack, the most widely supported open source software for building public and private clouds, has a strong ecosystem of technology leaders who are contributing to the software and building products and services to help organizations adopt the software platform. Broad industry support is both critical to the evolution and maturation of the software platform, as well as an important benefit for users who have a choice of vendors and consumption models represented in the OpenStack Marketplace.

OpenStack Foundation Platinum Members provide a significant portion of the funding and contribution to achieve the Foundation's mission of protecting, empowering and promoting the OpenStack community and software. In addition to Intel, Platinum Members in 2015 will include AT&T, Canonical, HP, IBM, Rackspace, Red Hat and SUSE.
