NetApp Teams with VMware to Deliver Integrated EVO: RAIL Product

NetApp, Inc., in an extension of its partnership with VMware, Inc., today announced the NetApp Integrated EVO: RAIL Solution, a new infrastructure solution powered by VMware EVO: RAIL and the NetApp Data ONTAP operating system. Building on NetApp’s strength in converged infrastructure for the data center, the NetApp Integrated EVO: RAIL Solution is designed for smaller department, remote, and branch office environments with limited IT personnel. As the first EVO: RAIL–powered solution to include flash-accelerated, scale-out NetApp enterprise storage, the NetApp Integrated EVO: RAIL Solution makes it easy for customers and partners to quickly deploy and manage virtualized business-critical applications. It also offers one-stop support for complete server and storage infrastructure.

“Customers asked us to take a fresh look at how we could extend the benefits of converged systems to meet the needs of smaller department and branch offices,” said George Kurian, executive vice president of Product Operations at NetApp. “By combining NetApp storage with VMware EVO: RAIL, we now offer an integrated solution that offers simple, cost-effective scaling; enterprise performance and the protection required for business-critical applications; a single point of support; and, best of all, complete flexibility to integrate with the cloud using the NetApp data fabric.”

With the NetApp Integrated EVO: RAIL Solution, branch and departmental sites with business-critical applications in virtualized environments now have an enterprise-proven infrastructure platform that also integrates with both the enterprise data center and public clouds. By jointly delivering a single, scalable, fixed-sized system with unified management, organizations with limited IT staff have the ability to build an enterprise-wide data fabric that extends to smaller departments and branch offices.

“With over 40,000 joint customers and 1,000 mutual channel partners, NetApp and VMware are uniquely positioned to bring the benefits of an enterprise-class hyperconverged infrastructure to smaller department, remote, and branch office environments with limited IT personnel,” said Raghu Raghuram, executive vice president, Software-Defined Data Center Division, VMware. “NetApp is creatively finding new ways to speed the deployment of virtualized infrastructure by solving for the form factor, answering support and cloud questions that every customer with limited IT staff is asking.”

The NetApp Integrated EVO: RAIL Solution simplifies IT transformation with an easy-to-use solution that can be deployed in minutes and includes unified management. This drastically reduces complexity, speeds time to provision virtual machines and storage, and provides comprehensive local and remote data protection. By integrating clustered Data ONTAP with EVO: RAIL, the NetApp Integrated EVO: RAIL Solution delivers industry-leading storage management and provisioning with multiple paths for integrating with the hybrid public cloud. As an enterprise-class solution, the NetApp Integrated EVO: RAIL Solution also reduces risk by offering proven storage efficiencies and independent storage expansion, integrated data protection and data mobility, nondisruptive operations, and increased stability.
