EMGS Selects Mellanox 40 Gigabit Ethernet Switches and NICs

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. today announced its industry-leading 40 Gigabit Ethernet solutions have been deployed by EMGS, the Norway-based market leader in electromagnetic (EM) technology, who uses its proprietary technology to support oil and gas companies in their search for offshore hydrocarbons. EMGS is utilizing Mellanox SwitchX SX1036 40GbE switches, ConnectX-3 40GbE NICs and cables to more efficiently acquire, process, visualize and interpret high-quality marine CSEM data at much greater speeds.

EMGS supports each stage of the exploration workflow, from survey design and data acquisition to processing and interpretation. The company’s services enable the integration of EM data with seismic and other geophysical and geological information to give oil and gas operators a clearer and more complete understanding of the subsurface and to reduce their risks in finding new reserves.

“As demands for access to more data increase, the oil industry is increasingly seeking solutions with faster data transfer rates to move and process large amounts of complex data,” said Gilad Shainer, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “Mellanox 40GbE switches are optimized to meet these requirements with a rich set of capabilities and best-in-class port density, latency, throughput and flexibility.”

Utilizing Mellanox technology, EMGS is connecting 264 servers (44 servers per rack) using fast, sub-230 latency switches and 40GbE uplinks to ensure the highest aggregation bandwidth, allowing for large amounts of traffic over fewer links.
