ZL Technologies Announces Embedded Hadoop Infrastructure

ZL Technologies, Inc. (ZL), the leader in comprehensive information governance and strategic leverage of data for the large enterprise, today announced that its flagship platform, ZL Unified Archive (ZL UA) now embeds key components of the Hadoop infrastructure, including Apache ZooKeeper, which enables distributed computing capabilities for very large-scale deployments.

The addition of ZooKeeper to ZL UA benefits massive deployments by leveraging Apache's proven performance and productivity benefits in enterprise-class environments of 100+ servers. The open-source service, hailed for its high-performance coordination for large distributed applications, allows for extremely efficient management of common server coordination tasks such as naming, configuration management, synchronization, and group services.

The ZL ZooKeeper Service allows dozens of servers to work together as one to eliminate repetitive data processing and make refreshed data periodically available and sharable between all working machines. In contrast, because deployments using legacy solutions can sprawl well beyond a small-cluster environment, performance levels can plummet rapidly and the management process can become hindered. However, using the Unified Archive with ZL ZooKeeper Service, customers can super-charge the performance and security of the unified data solution platform involving these large-scale deployments and receive a more automated management process for unstructured data, no matter how many servers are present. Improvements, particularly in efficiency and security, actually increase in magnitude as deployment sizes themselves increase.

It should be noted that relatively few enterprise software vendors are capable of incorporating this advanced technology into existing architecture, despite Apache ZooKeeper's proven performance benefits in large-scale server deployments. For many information governance solutions on the market, the extensive use of proprietary code and mismatched data schemas due to product acquisitions have effectively blocked possible integration with Apache offerings.

ZL enterprise customers utilizing ZL ZooKeeper Service can take now take advantage of the following features:

1. Distributed Computing - ZL ZooKeeper Service eliminates any unnecessary duplicative work directly out of the box, and allows usable data to be shared across the environment as well as making sure that ZL nodes are not performing overlapping tasks.

2. Increased Security - Centralized control of database passwords can save a significant amount of time and make it much easier and faster to rapidly configure systems with many nodes, without any manual effort or interference.

3. Real-time "Health" Monitoring of Machines - Each machine managed under the ZL ZooKeeper Service framework sends a periodic "heartbeat" signal which lets the system know it is functioning well, allowing problems with machine health to be caught more quickly than ever before.

"Addition of Apache ZooKeeper into the Unified Archive environment isn't just about increasing performance for the average business user. It's about boosting efficiency in truly massive enterprise settings," said Arvind Srinivasan, CTO of ZL Technologies. "Innovations such as this one drive game-changing opportunities for Big Data analytics and applications, and further enable us to provide world-class enterprise deployments that scale and reduce TCO while deriving value from information."
