Mesosphere Collaborates With Google

Mesosphere, creators of the world's first datacenter operating system, today announced a new initiative to collaborate with Google on Kubernetes to deliver the most flexible integrated solution to build, deploy and manage cloud-native applications in standalone and hybrid cloud computing environments. As part of this collaboration, Mesosphere will incorporate Kubernetes into the Mesosphere Datacenter Operating Systems (DCOS).

Mesosphere's Kubernetes on DCOS will provide companies of all sizes a way to to easily build and deploy Kubernetes cloud-native applications on the same cluster as other services, whether on-premises or in the cloud. Kubernetes is an open source project for building applications that is based on more than a decade of Google's experience in managing large-scale, distributed applications. The collaboration between Google and Mesosphere will allow enterprises to run Kubernetes applications on very large clusters (thousands of nodes) in a private datacenter, or in any public cloud. The Kubernetes integration with the Mesosphere DCOS also allows organizations to run multiple services concurrently on the same shared infrastructure and makes it easy to add Kubernetes to existing Apache Mesos or Mesosphere DCOS deployments.

"This collaboration is the culmination of a Mesosphere and Google strategy to make workloads portable across multiple datacenters and multiple clouds, at scale," said Florian Leibert, co-founder and CEO of Mesosphere. "We've worked with Google to package a robust common stack for running cloud-native applications anywhere. With Kubernetes integrated into the Mesosphere DCOS, we are giving enterprises the first real architecture that allows cloud-native applications to run in a rich, multi-service environment with other services like Spark and Hadoop, in a reliable, secure and elastic way."

Mesosphere's Kubernetes on DCOS allows enterprises to:

  • Run Kubernetes in a highly-automated environment, on any modern version of Linux with the Mesosphere DCOS -- on premise, on public cloud, virtualized or on bare metal;
  • Build and deploy Kubernetes applications at scale, across thousands of nodes, including resource and service monitoring plus alerting, authentication and authorization for enterprise-grade security;
  • Use cluster resources most efficiently and simplify operations by running Kubernetes applications on the same cluster as other datacenter services, including Cassandra, Hadoop, Kafka, Spark and Storm, yielding a high utilization and increasing the ROI;
  • Perform smooth migrations of multi-service workloads across private and public data centers, including all public clouds (Google Cloud Platform, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and) others;
  • Be backed by a reliable supplier of support for large-scale Kubernetes being used in production, offering enterprise-grade 24/7/365 support.
