Supermicro and Cumulus Networks Partner

Cumulus Networks, provider of the Cumulus Linux operating system for open networking, today announced Supermicro, a global leader in high-performance, high-efficiency server technology and innovation, has joined the company’s Open Hardware program with immediate availability of Cumulus Linux Ready Supermicro bare metal switches.

“Customers of all sizes now demand choice in their data center networks, and the industry is responding with more open networking platforms for an expanded set of supported use cases,” said Reza Malekzadeh, VP of Business, Cumulus Networks. “With open networking as a part of the Supermicro suite of total infrastructure solutions, customers can choose the solution that best fits their rapid deployment of a scalable, cost-efficient software-defined data center infrastructure for cloud, enterprise data centers, big data and HPC.”

Supermicro now provides Cumulus Linux Ready bare metal, top-of-rack switches for deployment in any scalable, enterprise-class environment. The 1U 48x 10GbE/6x 40GbE port Supermicro SSE-X3648S/SR is available now from Supermicro and its channel partners. The bare metal switch comes preloaded with the Open Network Install Environment (ONIE), enabling simple integration of Cumulus Linux by either the customer or the channel partner to enhance existing deployments or as a part of Supermicro’s total infrastructure solution. Customers can lower overall infrastructure TCO by deploying these cost-effective switches and leveraging the common Linux toolset across the entire infrastructure to gain operational efficiencies and ease of stability.

“Supermicro offers the most flexibility to customize SDDC solutions that fit any scale application requirement,” said Don Clegg, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Supermicro. “Our comprehensive portfolio of server, blade, storage, and networking solutions combined with rack integration and global support services ensure customers can cost effectively scale out solutions that deliver maximum performance, efficiency, reliability, and infrastructure control. Our collaboration with Cumulus Networks accelerates mass adoption of SDDC in Enterprise, Data Center, Cloud, and HPC environments. The results will transform the landscape, providing lowest TCO when leveraging the advantages of our high-quality, high-performance, energy-efficient Green Computing solutions.”

Cumulus Networks also announced today the new Cumulus Rack Management Platform product which enables open networking on out of band management switches within the rack.

The Supermicro portfolio and the Cumulus RMP will accelerate the adoption of open networking by providing customers with expanded choices, affordable capacity, and shared Linux management across servers and switches. For detailed information about supported platforms please see the Cumulus Networks hardware compatibility list which now includes 25 Cumulus Linux Ready switches from seven partners: Agema, Dell, Edge-Core, HP, Penguin, Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT), and Supermicro.
