Tesora Enhances Trove Database

Tesora today enhanced its database offerings by announcing an update of its enterprise-hardened implementation of OpenStack Trove database as a service (DBaaS) platform. This release adds support for more databases and OpenStack distributions, as well as new database management features, and deeper integration with the OpenStack Horizon dashboard. To get up and running on database as a service (DBaaS) with OpenStack Trove as quickly as possible, Tesora today also unveiled its TroveSpeed Program that includes the Tesora DBaaS Platform along with all the technical resources necessary to roll out multi-database, database as a service within hours.

Tesora DBaaS Platform Enterprise Edition 1.4 includes support for:

- The widely-used Oracle Database 11g.

- Updated database versions including, Couchbase 3.0, MongoDB 2.6 and 3.0 along with PostgreSQL 9.4, which builds on the extensive list of guest images currently available for OpenStack Trove.

- Cassandra backup and restore, user management features, and configuration group definitions.

- Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 6 added to existingdistributions.

- User management in Oracle 12c, such as the ability to create and delete users on a database instance.

- Enhanced integration with the OpenStack Horizon dashboard making it easy to create a new instance and define user management privileges.

“This is a significant update to Tesora’s implementation of OpenStack Trove that delivers on the most requested features needed by enterprises,” said Ken Rugg, CEO of Tesora. “We’re giving organizations what they need to provide a more agile infrastructure that delivers secure database capacity on demand.”

OpenStack Trove provides a single framework which makes it possible to operate many instances of a variety of different DBMS technologies – relational and non-relational – utilizing common infrastructure. This makes it much easier and faster to select and operate databases – while retaining all its capabilities – in a secure private or public cloud.

The Tesora DBaaS Platform Enterprise Edition makes OpenStack Trove easy, robust and interoperable by including:

- Installers and configuration scripts for leading OpenStack distributions for easier setup.

- Pre-configured and optimized Trove datastore images for supported technologies, which means less time setting up and tuning database performance.

- Extensive testing and certification with a wide range of popular databases and OpenStack distributions.

- 24/7 support with enterprise service level agreements, along with frequent maintenance release and bug fixes that resolve problems quickly, plus detailed documentation.

Tesora DBaaS Platform Enterprise Edition 1.4 is available immediately. This enterprise-hardened implementation of the OpenStack Trove DBaaS is based on the most current OpenStack code base (Kilo). Tesora DBaaS Community Edition is also available as an open source download. Trove is the database as a service component of OpenStack that lets administrators and DevOps manage multiple instances of different database management systems (DBMS) using a common infrastructure. Trove can help assure administrative tasks including provisioning, deployment, monitoring and administration are achieved in a simple and unified way.

TroveSpeed Program

Over a four-week period, Tesora provides a trial version of its DBaaS Enterprise Edition, online training, installation, and ongoing technical support, and at the conclusion, a results presentation for the project team.

“The emergence of public cloud platforms means that many organizations today are familiar with the time-to-market and agility benefits that come from using self-service databases,” said Ken Rugg, CEO of Tesora. “Not many, however, have implemented database as a service solutions internally. We created our TroveSpeed program to help enterprises see the full benefits of DBaaS through OpenStack Trove while reducing the time and effort associated with installing and configuring it.”

TroveSpeed lets OpenStack users quickly explore Trove DBaaS features and understand the benefits it can bring the enterprise, including:

- Self-service database provisioning and life-cycle management.

- Popular databases including Cassandra, MariaDB, MongoDB, MySQL, Oracle, Percona, and PostgreSQL, managed through a single, consistent pane.

- Access to deploy in private, public and hosted private clouds.

- Enterprise-quality customer support from Tesora, the number one contributor in the Trove project.

This program is available to qualified enterprises free of charge until September 30, 2015.
