Boston Limited Partners With Ellexus

FRANKFURT, Germany, July 15 -- Boston Limited, Elite Partner for Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre, is teaming up with HPC profiling experts Ellexus to bring to market a new load balancing tool for shared storage. The new software, code-named Mistral, will monitor file system IO across HPC clusters and protect against rogue applications by throttling IO.

In a compute cluster with shared storage it is possible for a small number of jobs to overload the network or file system. This can affect the performance of all the jobs on the cluster and even bring it down completely. This is called the noisy neighbour problem. Sometimes this problem is caused by rogue jobs that have been submitted to the cluster by mistake. However there are also times that the cluster may simply be overloaded with a high number of IO hungry jobs.

Mistral has been designed to monitor application IO and cluster performance so that jobs that exceed the expected IO thresholds can be automatically identified and slowed down through IO throttling. Dr Rosemary Francis, CEO of Ellexus, says: “Ellexus is already working with a number of HPC customers such as Cancer Research UK, Cambridge Institute, and we are looking for other customers to join our early release programme and to help develop and tune the product.”

Mistral monitoring empowers the Boston dataScaler-L powered by Lustre:

Boston celebrated its 23rd year by unveiling the Boston dataScaler-L, powered by Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre in Frankfurt, which is the industry’s highest density, commercially supported Lustre solution. This new solution features Supermicro’s 90 bay 4U JBOD which results in over 7PB raw space in a single rack.

Alongside the product launch, Boston was recognised as an Elite Partner to Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre. The hardware and expertise from Boston, combined with software from Intel, will be complemented by the new software monitoring and load balancing solution from Ellexus, Mistral.

Mr. Manoj Nayee, Managing Director of Boston Limited, says: “Boston is delighted to unveil our latest storage solutions at this year’s ISC, designed to provide ultimate performance and scalability for all HPC professionals. Boston has been at the forefront of innovative technology for over 20 years, providing cutting edge computational solutions to a range of industries.”
