Magma Releases ExpressBox 3600-AB

July 22 -- Magma, manufacturer of high performance expansion computing hardware, today announced its newest multi-GPU chassis, the ExpressBox 3600-AB (EB3600-AB), which features two separately managed five slot high-speed PCIe subsystems.  This gives system administrators flexibility, allowing them to independently power up or down servers and PCIe expansion subsystems.  This manageability is critical for servicing or upgrading GPUs, storage or other peripherals.

“Higher density GPU applications, such as those being deployed for virtualized applications built upon Citrix and VMWare, create challenges for system administrators to manage within their data centers,” says Jim Medeiros, Magma’s strategic business development manager. “The EB3600-AB eases this challenge by providing more control and manageability of deployments.”

Allowing two servers to connect to the EB3600-AB are two individual PCIe Gen 3 x16 backplanes, each with their own host uplink cards.  Accordingly, system administrators can support two autonomous hosts connected to the EB3600-AB, allowing each to independently manage all of the PCIe resources within their environment.  This control is provided by Magma’s Express I/O management interface, which provides a separate out-of-band Ethernet interface with built-in user GUI and SNMP capabilities.

“Magma provides best-in-class performance for high density GPU deployments, plus better manageability and control for data center administrators,” says Medeiros. “With the addition of the EB3600-AB to our growing multi-GPU product line, we are addressing a wide range of enterprise GPU challenges.”

Magma, founded in 1987, focuses on hardware expansion for servers, computers and laptops.  For the last two years they have begun designing and manufacturing performance expansion for running multiple GPUs to help meet the growing demand for denser compute architecture.

About Magma

Magma develops and manufactures expansion computing solutions using Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI), Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe), and Thunderbolt Systems for servers, desktops and portable computing platforms.  Magma’s line of products includes enclosed and non-enclosed solutions ranging from single slot expansion products to fault-tolerant, Reliable Available Serviceable (RAS) systems specifically designed for mission critical environments.

Magma products are platform independent and are used in a variety of industries including audio and video production, test and measurement, medical imaging, surveillance, aerospace and defense, telecommunications, data acquisition, and high performance computing.  Magma’s team of experienced engineers has been developing expansion and connectivity solutions since 1987 and holds more than a dozen technology patents, making them a pioneer and leader in the market space.  All Magma products are designed and assembled in the United States.  For more information about Magma visit www.magma.com.
