SGI UV 300H Certified by SAP to Run SAP HANA

MILPITAS, Calif., July 29 -- SGI, a global leader in high-performance solutions for compute, data analytics and data management, announced its SGI UV 300H is now SAP certified to run the SAP HANA platform in controlled availability at 20-sockets -- delivering up to 15 terabytes (TB) of in-memory computing capacity in a single node. Asserting the value of key enhancements in support package stack 10 (SPS10) for SAP HANA and SAP's close collaboration with system providers, SGI UV 300H delivers outstanding single-node performance and simplicity for enterprises moving to SAP HANA to gain business breakthroughs.

SGI UV 300H is a specialized offering in the SGI UV server line for in-memory computing that enables enterprises to further unlock value from information in real-time, boost innovation, and lower IT costs with SAP HANA. Featuring a highly differentiated single-node architecture, the system delivers significant performance advantages for businesses running SAP Business Suite 4 SAP HANA (SAP S/4HANA) and complex analytics at extreme scale. The single-node simplicity also helps enterprises eliminate overhead associated with clustered environments, streamline high availability, and scale-up seamlessly as data volumes grow with near-linear performance.

Integrated with the recently announced SAP HANA SPS10, SGI UV 300H capitalizes on deep collaboration between SAP, Intel and SGI to optimize SAP HANA-based workloads on multicore NUMA (non-uniform memory access) systems. This enables enterprises to leverage single-node systems with very large memory capacity and CPU cores, allowing them to enjoy optimum application performance. The unique capabilities provided by the SGI UV 300H in the areas of high-availability and disaster recovery, when used together with the advanced in-memory data processing of SAP HANA, provide an outstanding environment for running mission-critical business applications.

Announcement Highlights

  • SGI announced the SGI UV 300H 20-socket system has been certified by SAP to run SAP HANA in controlled availability, delivering up to 15 terabytes (TB) of in-memory computing capacity.
  • SGI UV 300H is the largest system certified for SAP S/4HANA and advanced analytics requiring a single-node solution.

Technical Information SGI UV 300H couples seventh-generation SGI in-memory computing technology, Intel Xeon processor E7-8890 v2, and ultrafast SGI NUMAlink 7 interconnects, and is available in a choice of deployments:

  • Coupling UV 300H with NetApp E2700 RAID for data and log backup and pre-configured with SAP HANA running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, SGI UV for SAP HANA is a fully-integrated, unparalleled HANA appliance.
  • Leveraging existing enterprise storage solutions such as EMC VNX and VMAX offerings, the SGI UV 300H appliance further expands customer reach using the SAP HANA tailored data center integration approach.

For either deployment configuration, the UV 300H is SAP-certified under general availability from 4- to 8-sockets with up 6TB of shared memory, and under controlled availability for 12-sockets with up to 9TB of shared memory, 16-sockets with up to 12TB of shared memory, and 20-sockets with up to 15TB of shared memory. The system is designed to scale up to 32-sockets and 24TB of shared memory and has not yet been certified for by SAP for SAP HANA.

"The recent NUMA enhancements to SAP HANA coupled with SGI's future-proof single-node architecture provide enterprises with excellent in-memory platform performance and scale," said Jorge Titinger, CEO, SGI. "By working closely with SAP, we are helping make real-time a reality in the largest and most demanding application environments with the first 20-socket SAP HANA-certified in-memory server, the SGI UV 300H."
