Solarflare Expands Engineering Capabilities With New R&D Facility

IRVINE, Calif., July 29 -- Solarflare, the leader in application-intelligent 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet (10/40GbE) software and hardware technology, announced today that it has opened and staffed a new R&D facility in San Diego, California, complementing existing staff and facilities in Irvine, CA, Cambridge, UK and New Delhi, India. Under the direction of Solarflare Vice President Engineering Andre Chartrand, the San Diego software engineering team will be focused on the development of next-generation server security software.

Long recognized as an industry leader in ultra-high performance, ultra-low latency networking, Solarflare has now emerged as a pioneering developer of security software and hardware that is integrated into the primary target of cyber attacks – network servers. This server defense approach provides an additional layer of security to existing security infrastructures, providing a last line of defense that intercepts cyber attacks before they can penetrate servers and compromise networks.

The recent facility and staff expansion represents one of several indicators of substantial growth within the company. For instance, worldwide employee headcount has increased 50% in the past 18 months. The company has also recorded impressive growth in the Asia Pacific region, with several significant customer wins in recent months. Solarflare now serves over 1,400 customers worldwide, up 24% in the past year.

From a technology standpoint, Solarflare was recently awarded its 100th patent, a significant achievement for a privately held company and a direct reflection of the groundbreaking innovations that continue to present a substantial barrier to competition from larger, publicly traded companies.

“We are pleased to see the growing demand for our new software solutions that defend and accelerate servers and look to our San Diego engineering team to help respond quickly to that demand,” said Russell Stern, President and CEO of Solarflare. “Because our software/hardware solutions deal with issues common to most scale-out networks, we have witnessed their broad appeal. Customers can easily recognize the benefit of a new layer of security that is distributed throughout their network, providing detection and protection at the server end points.”
