Lenovo Showcases New Enterprise Software at VMworld

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Aug. 31 -- Lenovo today announced, at the VMworld 2015, an array of ISV enterprise and small- and medium-business-oriented offerings including Red Hat OpenStack and VMware Software Defined Data Center. These powerful new solutions will help users improve performance and accelerate deployment in support of demanding workloads such as cloud, big data and database applications. Today’s enterprise customers are seeking cutting-edge technology to increase their agility and flexibility. According to a recent Lenovo survey, businesses are expected to double cloud applications and storage over the next couple of years. Managing complex cloud virtualization and using big data to drive revenue growth will be a significant edge for businesses large and small.

Lenovo Cloud Solutions

New and updated Lenovo cloud solutions are designed to guide customers as they deploy simple and efficient cloud platforms. Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, paired with the Lenovo System x3650/x3550 M5 and ThinkServer RD650/RD550 rack servers provides the performance, scalability and security required to gain a competitive advantage and can offer maximum uptime for those business-critical cloud applications.

“The open, hybrid cloud is critical to the next generation of enterprise IT, and open-source technologies serve as fundamental building blocks for innovation across the entire realm of enterprise computing,” said Jim Totton, vice president and general manager, Platforms Business Unit, Red Hat. “In this vein, we are pleased to expand our relationship with Lenovo to provide our leading open-source solutions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform on top of Lenovo hardware. Together, we’ll bring secure, reliable and flexible platforms to enterprise IT, be it on bare metal, via virtual machines or powering private- and hybrid-cloud deployments.”

The Lenovo Cloud Reference Architecture for VMware Software Defined Data Center provides an affordable and interoperable cloud architecture to manage all of a business’s virtualized workloads. Lenovo System x3650 M5 rack server, Lenovo networking and IBM Storwize V3700 storage delivers on all fronts with up to 61 percent greater virtualization performance versus the previous generation.

Lenovo Big Data and Database Solutions

With global IP traffic expected to increase three-fold over the next four years according to Cisco Visual Networking Index, managing the storage and distribution of big data has never been more important. Lenovo continues its commitment to big-data solutions with updated Hadoop reference architectures for Cloudera, MapR and IBM. These tested and integrated reference architectures provide leading-edge technology around big data with the reliability and scalability of Lenovo System x3650 and x3550 M5 rack servers with Intel Xeon E5-2600 V3 processors.

As data continues to grow exponentially, Lenovo introduces new database solutions to help customers transform their industries by rapidly harnessing the power of data. Lenovo Database Configuration for EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus provides a combination of the Lenovo System x3850 X6 mission-critical server with mainframe-like reliability. The open-source-based Postgres Plus Advanced Server database from EnterpriseDB presents a very economical database solution option.

Lenovo Database Configuration for MongoDB Enterprise combines the most popular NoSQL database software with the Lenovo System x3850 X6 server for a novel scale-up computing approach. Coupling the reliability of the Lenovo System x3850 X6 with the advanced features of MongoDB, the result is outstanding system performance, availability and dependability, which results in faster data results and reduced downtime.

“The IT landscape is shifting at an unbelievable pace with businesses handling more data and more traffic than ever before,” said Michael Gebele, vice president, World Wide Systems Development, Lenovo Enterprise Business Group. “Having a nimble and scalable hybrid data center infrastructure to support a wide variety of solutions has never been more vital. With best-in-class ISV partners, Lenovo provides that agile infrastructure that acts as the bedrock of the data center.”
