Hortonworks and NEC Partner

Sept. 1 -- NEC Corporation and Hortonworks, Inc. have agreed to partner in the field of distributed processing of big data. The agreement enables NEC to resell support services for the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), the industry's only 100-percent open source data platform powered by "Apache Hadoop", in Japan and other Asian markets. This will allow NEC customers to utilize Open Enterprise Hadoop as a complementary component of their data architectures to enable a broad range of new applications, as well as enrich existing ones with additional data sources.

Hortonworks is the leader in Open Enterprise Hadoop and develops, distributes and supports the only 100-percent open source Hadoop data platform. The Hortonworks team comprises the largest contingent of builders and architects within the Hadoop ecosystem who represent and lead the broader enterprise requirements within these communities.

NEC has combined proprietary big data analytics technologies with its cutting edge server and storage products, and is providing solutions to enable predictive analytics and advanced data visualization through the processing of huge volumes of customer data. As companies exerience explosive growth in data volume, NEC has been looking to develop a partner who is able to implement Hadoop support to respond to individual customer needs by tailoring optimal and scalable ICT solutions.

NEC will begin selling Hortonworks dedicated support service, "HDP Support Subscription", in October 2015. Enterprises will have the ability to chose from different license options, enabling them to select the subscription that best fits their deployment needs for batch, interactive and real-time processing.

"Under this collaboration with Hortonworks, NEC will provide our customers with opportunities to create new value from big data through the combination of our unique analysis technology, server and storage products and Hortonworks Data Platform powered by Apache Hadoop," said Tomoyasu Nishimura, General Manager, IT Platform Division, NEC Corporation.

"We are seeing interest in using Hortonworks Data Platform across a broad range of industries for new analytic applications and data center optimization use cases", said Brian Burns, Regional Vice President-North Asia, Hortonworks. "Our new partnership helps speed the adoption of Apache Hadoop in Japan and Asian countries by enabling NEC to resell Hortonworks industry leading support services combined with their trusted deliver expertise."

NEC and Hortonworks will further deepen their relationship in order to realize reliable Hadoop-based big data analysis platform solutions.
