ScaleMP Announces Release of vSMP Foundation Version 7.0

FORT LEE, N.J., Nov. 10 -- ScaleMP, a leading provider of virtualization solutions for high-end computing and data analytics, announced today the release of its patented vSMP Foundation Version 7.0. vSMP Foundation Version 7.0 is already available for limited release, and will be generally available for download or purchase before year end. Highlights of this major release include:

  • Main system memory expansion using Flash storage (Flash Expansion)
  • Certification of Mellanox 100G EDR for memory backplane

Flash Expansion

The new capability for aggregating regular DRAM-based memory together with non-volatile memory (NVM) into a single coherent main system memory is effectively revolutionizing the use of high-speed Flash in the data center, moving up from storage functionality to main memory capability. Flash memory offers higher capacity at lower price point as compared with RAM. It allows for an 80 percent cost reduction in existing system memory, or 10X increase in system memory with less than 2X increase in price. OEMs are already shipping Flash Expansion products using ScaleMP’s innovative technology, and ScaleMP is aggressively ramping up support for additional Flash-based storage devices, expected to ship in the first half of 2016.

“Our new technology allows for increased multi-tenancy in a single node in a cloud environment, running larger-than-ever in-memory databases, and solving larger scientific and engineering problems at blazing speed,” said Shai Fultheim, CEO and founder of ScaleMP. “The same technology also offers the ability to realize significant savings in total data center costs by reducing the overall DRAM expense.”

Mellanox 100G EDR InfiniBand

With vSMP Foundation’s newly announced support for 100 Gbps EDR InfiniBand from Mellanox, SMP systems can now be built with up to 100 Gbps bidirectional memory backplanes, fully non-blocking, with ultra-low latency. This enables in-memory computing with unprecedented performance for both HPC and in-memory, very-large databases.

“ScaleMP is leveraging Mellanox’s EDR 100G InfiniBand to create scale-up SMP systems and reduce the total cost of ownership for clustered infrastructures,” says Gilad Shainer, vice president marketing of Mellanox Technologies. “We are working closely with ScaleMP to enable scale-up solution for enterprise and technical computing and to simplify high-performance computing environments by reducing the number of managed entities in the data center.”

About vSMP Foundation

vSMP Foundation aggregates multiple industry-standard, off-the-shelf x86 servers and components into a single virtual high-end system. vSMP Foundation provides customers with an alternative to traditional expensive symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP) systems, and also offers simplified clustering infrastructure with a single operating system. It supports aggregation of up to 128 servers into a single virtual SMP system, providing customers with:

  • Up to 2.0 petabytes of shared memory for large-memory requirements
  • Up to a 32,768 CPU virtual SMP, proven scalability and record-breaking memory bandwidth
  • Ease of use and lowest total cost of ownership for clusters coupled with simplified storage architecture
  • On-demand SMP with support for most common provisioning systems, allowing for increased data center utilization with consolidated architecture
