CALIENT to Showcase HPC Optical Networking Solutions at SC15

Nov. 16 -- CALIENT Technologies, Inc., the global leader in Optical Circuit Switching technology, today announced it will exhibit at the SC15 Supercomputing Conference happening November 16-19, 2015 at the Austin Convention Center in Texas.

Exhibiting in booth 2053, CALIENT will showcase its S-Series Optical Circuit Switches for web-scale data center optical networks to deliver improved utilization of expensive compute and storage resources. The S-Series includes the S320, a 320-port OCS and the S-160, a 160-port OCS.

The switches allow any-to-any network connections with almost no latency and can be reconfigured on demand through network management or SDN controllers via a range of standard APIs. Small form factor, extremely low power consumption and almost unlimited scalability make the CALIENT switches ideal for high-performance computing (HPC) applications.

Some of the applications the company will have on display at SC15 include:

Virtual PODs (VPODs): OCS-enabled VPODs allow large data centers and supercomputing facilities to reconfigure compute and storage resources at the optical layer to match the specific requirements of workloads. This delivers improved computational performance, lower energy consumption, and lower capital cost as data centers scale out to support massive application demands.

SD-WAN & Data Center Interconnect: Deploying CALIENT’s Optical Circuit Switches at the edges of MAN/WAN networks and between network and vendor domain boundaries allows service providers and data center operators to accelerate SD-WAN deployments by virtualizing all of the disparate resources in their optical transport networks regardless of the vendor or vintage.

“HPC data centers need every bit of speed they can squeeze from a network, and OCS can be easily overlaid onto the existing infrastructure to provide a significant performance boost. They really offer the best of both worlds because they consume very little power – the other big challenge in today’s HPC world,” said Daniel Tardent, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing of CALIENT. “SC15 is the event for showcasing high performance computing solutions and we are excited to share our S-Series with our peers and potential new customers.”

Now in its 27th year, the annual SC Conference provides a unique venue for spotlighting high performance computing and scientific applications, and innovations from around the world. For more information, visit http://sc15.supercomputing.org/.

About CALIENT Technologies, Inc.

CALIENT Technologies is the global leader in pure photonic Optical Circuit Switching with systems that enable dynamic optical layer optimization in next generation data centers and software defined networks. CALIENT’s 3D MEMS switches allow data center operators to dramatically improve utilization rates of expensive compute resources, which typically account for 75 to 90% of investment. Data center operators and metro service providers also deploy CALIENT switches at the edges of their networks to facilitate multi-layer network optimization for maximum efficiency and flexibility. In this application the optical circuit switches support network-wide implementation of SD-WAN regardless of the vendor or vintage of the optical transport system. The company designs and manufactures its systems using the state of art MEMS fabrication equipment at its corporate headquarters in Santa Barbara California.
