GridGain Releases Professional Edition 2.0

FOSTER CITY, Calif., May 11, 2017 -- GridGain Systems, provider of enterprise-grade in-memory computing platform solutions based on Apache Ignite, today announced the availability of GridGain Professional Edition 2.0, a fully supported version of Apache Ignite 2.0. GridGain Professional Edition 2.0 includes new functionality that significantly improves performance and simplifies the integration requirements for use cases where distributed, in-memory computing can dramatically improve the speed and scalability of data-intensive applications. New functionality includes a redesigned off-heap memory architecture that extends support beyond RAM to now include solid-state drives (SSDs) and flash memory, and helps eliminate noticeable Java garbage collection (GC) pauses. The release also adds support for Data Definition Language (DDL) within the SQL Grid, support for the Spring Data API, enhanced .NET and C++ functionality, and more.

Redesigned Off-Heap Memory Architecture
GridGain Professional Edition 2.0 has a completely redesigned off-heap memory architecture that extends beyond RAM to better support SSD and flash memory-based persistence and SQL-based indexing. The new design utilizes a page-based approach with slab memory allocation, which optionally may be mapped to any persistent storage without having to serialize or de-serialize the data. In addition, GridGain Professional Edition 2.0 will automatically handle data defragmentation on the fly and remove any noticeable GC pauses.

Support for Data Definition Language
GridGain Professional Edition 2.0 adds support for Data Definition Language (DDL) to its built-in SQL Grid. Administrators can now define and alter indexes during runtime without the need to restart the cluster. This capability is accessed using standard SQL commands, such as CREATE or DROP. Support for DDL extends the capabilities of the platform's SQL Grid, increasing the types of applications an organization can accelerate and scale with the leading open source in-memory computing platform.

Spring Data Integration
Spring Data integration makes it possible to easily interact with the GridGain Professional Edition 2.0 cluster using the broadly adopted Spring Data API. Once connected to the GridGain cluster using the Spring Data API, users can execute distributed SQL queries as well as simple CRUD operations.

Ignite.NET Plugin for Third-Party Integration
Ignite.NET now features a plugin system that enables integration with third-party solutions. The plugin system makes it possible to extend the default Ignite.NET API by customizing the API or adding new, more advanced capabilities.

Ignite.C++ Logic Execution on Remote Nodes
Ignite.C++ now includes the ability to execute custom C++ code on remote Ignite nodes. C++ developers need not switch to Java if they want to filter out some updates on GridGain data nodes. They can now do it directly from C++.

Support for Hibernate 5
With Hibernate L2 cache integration, GridGain Professional Edition 2.0 now supports Hibernate 5.

Quote
"The new features in GridGain Professional Edition 2.0 support our vision for an easy to use, memory-first approach to computing," said Abe Kleinfeld, President and CEO of GridGain Systems. "The redesigned GridGain Professional Edition 2.0 off-heap memory architecture seamlessly extends RAM with support for SSD and flash memory-based systems. This enables users to deploy a tiered-memory architecture that better balances performance and cost for latency-sensitive applications. The addition of DDL support further strengthens our unique ANSI SQL-99 capabilities, making the product easier to use for professionals accustomed to interacting with databases using standard SQL commands. The Professional Edition also features an easy deployment package, professional support and timely bug fixes, making it the solution of choice for organizations looking to accelerate and scale their data-intensive applications with in-memory computing."

About GridGain Professional Edition
Based on Apache Ignite, GridGain Professional Edition enables data-intensive applications to scale out to petabytes of data and improve performance by 1,000x or more versus disk-based data stores without replacing existing databases. GridGain provides a high performance in-memory data grid with ANSI SQL-99 support, in-memory database capabilities including ACID transaction support, and real-time streaming analytics including native support for Apache Spark in a single, comprehensive in-memory computing platform. GridGain powers existing and new applications in a distributed, massively parallel architecture on commodity hardware, which can easily scale out by adding more nodes to the GridGain cluster. Integrating GridGain requires minimal or no modifications to the application or database layers for architectures built on all popular RDBMS, NoSQL or Apache Hadoop databases.

GridGain Professional Edition includes the latest version of Apache Ignite, patches that have not yet been released in Apache Ignite, and high-value LGPL libraries. Users receive regular maintenance releases with timely bug fixes, which are contributed to the Apache Ignite project but are not released as part of Apache Ignite until the next release cycle. GridGain Professional Edition 2.0, available to GridGain Standard Professional Support subscribers, is for companies that want support, timely bug fixes and an easily deployed package when using Apache Ignite in production.
