OPTIS Shares its Vision for Predictive Rendering at GPU Technology Conference

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 28, 2018 OPTIS, a leading global virtual prototyping company, has announced its attendance at NVIDIA’s GPU Tech Conference (GTC), taking place through March 29 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. OPTIS will join other visionaries at the conference, which features the latest innovations in artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning, and covers manufacturing, transportation, health, logistics, government, energy and automotive industries. OPTIS will chair the panel, “Predictive Rendering for Industrial Application” (session #S8804), as well as demonstrate industrial virtual reality tools for design and engineering - showcasing some of its latest innovations, such as VRX, HIM and Theia-RT, at booth 907 in the VR Village.

Focused on AI and deep learning, GTC highlights the most innovative advances in technologies affecting the industry, with dedicated labs, conferences and demonstrations. Attendees will learn more about the latest breakthroughs in self-driving cars, smart cities, big data, high-performance computing and virtual reality.

At the event, OPTIS Technologies Innovation Director Nicolas Dalmasso will chair the panel “Predictive Rendering for Industrial Application” – session #S8804. Dalmasso will discuss how, if physics-based rendering has become a standard in the field of rendering or visualization, it is not enough for a tool to be predictive. OPTIS has actively focused on optics and photometry simulation for nearly 30 years and has worked on real-time GPU-based applications for 10 years. OPTIS released the first GPU-accelerated predictive renderer that mixes rasterization, deterministic ray tracing, and Monte Carlo ray tracing to provide highly realistic spectral propagation of light. Ray tracing is essential to predictive simulation, as it provides the necessary information to make the right decision based on what a human eye would see.

Dalmasso will also explain how any material can be captured with a dedicated material scanner – OMS, or Optical Material Scanner – and the photometry results computed by the simulation, to get results that are accurate enough to make costly decisions in industrial use cases such as color and trim, reflection analysis, lighting design, and high-end VR configurators.

“We use powerful NVIDIA GPU technologies like the new Quadro GV100 to accelerate our simulation applications and algorithms, and NVIDIA OptiX for fast, AI-based rendering. We’re excited about the potential NVIDIA RTX ray-tracing technology holds to deliver more lifelike images faster than ever,” said Jacques Delacour, CEO and founder of OPTIS.

At GTC, OPTIS is demonstrating future technology for industrial solutions, including manufacturing and ergonomics for the next generation of vehicles, sensor simulation technology, and intelligent headlights. OPTIS works specifically to simulate advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and LiDAR sensors, critical elements in testing autonomous vehicles in VR, which eliminates costly and potentially risky real-world tests. With autonomous driving and intelligent systems, optical sensors are predominant in the industry. To virtually anticipate any critical situations that could occur in the real world, OPTIS uses NVIDIA’s ray tracing as the only way to provide the necessary precision to the optical simulation of these sensors.

OPTIS is also showcasing how NVIDIA’s OptiX AI-accelerated denoiser enables it to make the most of GPU-accelerated AI and dramatically reduces simulation times for its physics-based visualizations. The visually noiseless renderings obtained enable quick, interactive iterations and decision-making, resulting in a shorter product design phase.
