Tencent Expands its International Cloud Computing Footprint with Four New Data Centers

HONG KONG, Apr. 3, 2018 -- Tencent Cloud has launched four new data centers in Hong Kong, the United States and India, further expanding Tencent Cloud’s international cloud computing presence. The simultaneous launch of the four international data centers, which offer a range of solutions including storage, cloud security, big data, and artificial intelligence, lays the foundation for an integrated cloud service with low latency and reliable network connectivity for international companies looking to scale efficiently.

The data center in Hong Kong will be Tencent Cloud's second facility in the city focused on the financial sector, while two new data centers in the United States – Silicon Valley and Virginia – ensure coverage across the east and west coasts. Finally, the new data center in Mumbai, India, will serve as a core hub for Tencent Cloud in Southern Asia.

“Globalization is an important part of Tencent Cloud's strategy. By offering our advanced cloud computing infrastructure across the globe, we can not only share Tencent Cloud's technology and expand our portfolio of industry solutions, but also lower costs and increase efficiency across a variety of industries,” said Yuepeng Qiu, Vice President of Tencent and President of Tencent Cloud.

Hong Kong: Doubling capacity for the financial sector

As one of the world's most important finance, trade, and shipping hubs, Hong Kong is the first stop for many companies targeting the international business community. Tencent Cloud opened its first overseas data center in Hong Kong in 2014, and has since served numerous multinational and local organizations in financial, gaming, internet, and other industries, empowering the innovation and growth of their businesses.

The second data center in Hong Kong will follow the same technical standards of the inaugural facility, designed specifically for the financial sector. In the future, government agencies and companies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as mainland companies going overseas, will have easy access to Tencent Cloud's high-quality cloud computing services and technical capabilities.

United States: Connecting business across America

In 2017, Tencent Cloud opened its first US data center in Silicon Valley to provide local data support for companies in the gaming, video, and other new internet industries, as well as help companies scale globally.

Tencent Cloud's second data center in Silicon Valley is equipped with a high-performance infrastructure to support the computational demands of artificial intelligence. At the same time, Tencent Cloud's facility in Virginia will expand its coverage of the east coast and connect into the largest network hub in the region. These new datacenters significantly expand Tencent Cloud’s presence in the US and deliver a better user experience for customers.

India: Creating a launchpad into Southern Asia from Mumbai

Over the past year, Chinese smartphone, ecommerce, gaming, video, and livestreaming companies have started exploring and capitalizing on new opportunities in the Indian market. Key to the development of such industries is high-quality computing and network resources to ensure the best mobile internet experience.

Tencent Cloud chose Mumbai, India's largest city and economic center, as the location of its first data center in the country. This new facility will provide both Chinese and Indian companies with access to fundamental cloud computing products and services, big data and artificial intelligence platforms, as well as solutions for specific verticals, such as video, finance, ecommerce, social networking, and gaming. Tencent Cloud's advanced infrastructure will help users to significantly reduce costs and enhance efficiency, while achieving commercial success and innovation in Southern Asia.

With the launch of four new major data centers, Tencent Cloud now has 42 availability zones around the globe, helping companies successfully and quickly expand their businesses, such as Mobike, Futu Securities, and Supercell. Within a year, Tencent Cloud plans to open new facilities in Thailand, Russia and Japan, as it expands its international presence and enables more companies to tap into the power of cloud computing and technology.
