Arcadia Data Brings Search-Based BI and Analytics to Apache Hadoop and the Cloud

SAN MATEO, Calif., Sept. 5, 2018 — Arcadia Data, provider of the first visual analytics software native to Apache Hadoop and the cloud, has announced new search-based BI and analytics available in an upcoming release of its flagship product, Arcadia Enterprise. Now, business users can easily query more of their data with a simple, Google-like search interface and receive instant visual answers that give them insight. Arcadia Data continues to trailblaze by delivering innovations that further the success of end-user consumerization of big data for organizations.

Quick and easy search-based access to data directly affects real-time decision making. Arcadia Data believes in providing access to more information so that organizations can easily increase the value they receive from their data. Current BI and analytics tools require users to guess in advance when determining which dataset to query, and then requires users to explicitly pick fields to analyze. Arcadia Data now allows users to simply type in natural-language questions and get answers back, breaking the mold of this legacy-minded approach and encouraging users to embrace modern BI and reap the benefits of its speed and agility.

The new functionality makes deriving value from organizational data easy. Questions like, “what are sales by state in 2018 compared to 2017” and “show me the trend in storage device failure rates” are answered with visualizations based on any size data set. With no learning curve, organizations won’t have to worry about mismatches between legacy BI tools and modern data platforms. Instead, users can now select a BI tool that allows them to leverage modern data architectures.

New Arcadia Enterprise search-based BI functionality includes:

  • Guided Questions: AI-driven type-ahead and suggestion capabilities that recommend related questions users may be interested in.
  • Ranked Answers: Arcadia Enterprise scores questions against all datasets in the system. The best answer is displayed immediately, and a list of other possible answers with lower scores are shown as well. As users click on alternative answers, the system learns that those results are potentially more relevant to the typed question.
  • Operationalized Insights: Now users can have their search and BI, too. Users can start with a simple search bar and then move into a detailed set of advanced BI interfaces to build and deploy data applications.

“This new search-based BI capability strengthens our lead in building next-gen capabilities for business users. It also further underscores the possibilities of modern BI architectures and the value they create for today’s largest and most important businesses.” said Priyank Patel, chief product officer and co-founder, Arcadia Data. “We’ve all grown accustomed to the simplicity and power of internet searches. Now, Arcadia Enterprise gives the capability of search to organizations tackling big data analytics and empowers their users with access to all of their data in a consumer-friendly, search-based fashion. We have always, and will continue to, push the envelope of innovation to deliver on uncompromised scale, avoid unnecessary data movement, and accelerate time-to-insight so that our users maximize the value of their data.”

Access to data and data analysis is still a challenge for organizations that attempt to use traditional BI tools on modern data platforms. These tools require organizations to move data into their proprietary platforms. That movement reduces agility, increases security risks and prevents users from responding in a timely manner to quickly-changing business requirements. As a result, the benefits of platforms such as Apache Hadoop® and cloud data stores have been largely unavailable to business users with legacy BI tools. Arcadia Enterprise is native to big data platforms eliminating extracts to a separate non-parallel set of BI servers. This mitigates the delays and governance challenges that the traditional analytical life cycle creates. Arcadia Data works natively with big data environments like Apache Hadoop; cloud stores like Amazon S3 and Azure ADLS; streaming systems like Apache Kafka; and databases like Oracle, Teradata, Snowflake and Amazon Redshift.
